Science of the Sea Documentary

The Challenge

In a world where science often feels like a distant galaxy, we had a mission: to bridge the gap between science and activism, and ignite a passion for science in the hearts of the next generation.

The Mission

Crafting a documentary that spotlights the rockstar marine scientists at the Bulgarian Institute of Oceanology. Show how critical they are in protecting our precious sea (and planet!), and make science sexy again.

The Vision

We set out to prove that art and activism can jam together to amplify the scientific message. With stunning shots of the Black Sea and inspiring stories from our marine science heroes, we aimed to help viewers see why a scientific institute of this kind matters more than ever in the fight for environmental preservation.

My Role

As the screenwriter, I stitched together the passion of eco-activism and the brilliance of scientists, crafting a narrative that was as informative as it was inspiring.

The Structure

The film unfolds through the eyes of eco-activist and windsurfer Iliyana Stoilova, who stands behind our previous work, the WIND2WIN documentary. She takes audiences on a journey brimming with vibrant imagery and thought-provoking interviews with our marine scientists. As she navigates each segment, she expertly weaves together real science with personal stories, showcasing the diverse work happening at the Institute of Oceanology.

The Impact

“Science of the Sea” sparked conversations about why scientific work matters, bringing the worlds of science and activism together in a big way. The film made waves at various scientific forums and film festivals and even aired on National Television.
